| ДУХОВНА ЛИРА
The renowned St. Nikolai Velimirović († 1956), among so many other merits, was the spiritual father and leader of a renewal movement among the pious lay people of Serbia, the Prayer Movement of the Bogomoljci (literally, the God-Beseechers). This movement was based on prayer, fasting, the study of Holy Scripture and patristic writings, and service to God and neighbor. From their constant reading of the Scriptures, singing of spiritual songs, vigilance in prayer, pilgrimages from monastery to monastery, frequent confession of their sins, keeping of the fasts, and frequent partaking of the Holy Mysteries, there was a certain vibrant spiritual fervor present in the hearts of the Bogomoljci which imbued their lives with grace. Those in the movement would spend long hours singing devotional songs based on folk melodies. They loved to gather around Bishop Nikolai, singing these very moving and edifying songs that he had written. Whether they were in cities, villages, or monasteries, these zealous God-seekers began slowly to transform those around them.
