By the Elder Paisios of Mount Athos (1924-1994) Father Paisios of blessed memory was best known for his holy life characterized by love, humility, meekness and spiritual discernment. When Father Paisios first came to the Holy Mountain he heard a great deal about the Elder Hadji-George, and everyone spoke of him with great reverence and admiration. He became a great biographer of the lives of many Athonite monastics and ascetics, and spoke with those who knew these holy Elders, taking notes and saving them "so that some other soul might benefit". This is the story of one such Elder who tamed wild beasts, endured persecutions, had the gift of spiritual perception and discernment, gave alms and worked many miracles through his holy and ascetic life.
