The Holy Mountain: Two lectures on Mount Athos, of which the first deals with its Scholars, Missionaries and Saints, and the second with its Music, Musicians, and Hymnographers; together with an account of a Recent Visit to Athos
| by Constantine Cavarnos
“Part One is the first comprehensive account of the scholars, missionaries and saints of Mount Athos; while Part Two is similarly the first attempt to discuss Athonite music, musicians and hymnographers in a somewhat extensive and systematic manner. The account of my 1965 pilgrimage, while having analogues in other books about Athos, brings to light new data and perspectives, and communicates important messages from the holy fathers who dwell there regarding ‘Ecumenism,’ Orthodox monasticism in the contemporary world, and other topics. The Menologium, the first that has been composed, provides a helpful reference list for the general reader, and should be of use to the Orthodox clergy for celebrating these saints, a great many of whom are not mentioned in the liturgical books named Menaia.” —“Preface”
