The long history of the ecumenical movement and the unchanging spirit which has been its motivating force, in fact, show that it is to the benefit of the Orthodox Church to avoid participation in these endeavors for unity. Far too often, ignoring this fact, the price paid for Orthodox participation in the ecumenical ‘spirit of brotherly love’ is compromise in basic elements of our Faith.
