What God Has Done for Our Salvation

St. Nikodim of the Holy Mountain
Translated by Reader Nathan Williams
Translated from the 2003 Russian edition by the publisher, "Prolog" Kiev

“Think of a gift, the value of which becomes clear when three things are combined in you: an awareness of the greatness of the gift; love for the One Who gives the gift to you, and an awareness of the benefits it brings. These three wonderful things reveal the gift bestowed in the Mystery of the Divine Eucharist. God, Who created the world, gave us many things. First, He gave us our own selves, bringing us out of non—existence in order that we might exist in His image and likeness. He gave us His countless creations, both heavenly and earthly—not only the immaterial and spiritual, but also the material—o that we might look after them. He created heaven, earth, and all that is therein for us. Still greater was the gift of the incarnation, in which God the Word united Himself with human nature so as to make men gods by grace.”
