Saint Paisios the Great

by Saint John the Dwarf of Egypt
(This beautiful life of St. Paisios was written by St. John the Kolovos and was compiled and translated in the simplest form by Saint Nicodemos of the Holy Mountain, published and included in the New Eklogion.)
Translated by Leonidas Papadopulos and Georgia Lizardos from the Greek in The Great Synaxaristes of the Orthodox Church

“Paisios, the holy ascetic, was born in Egypt circa A. D. 300 of pious and virtuous parents who possessed noble and Christian ideals. They had seven children who resembled them in all their virtues. Their material wealth was enough not only to supply their own needs, but also to provide for the needs of others. For as long as they distributed their possessions among the poor, so much more did God give them back in return and multiplied their sub- stance. However, after the death of their father, the burden of car- ing for the family fell on the hands of the mother, and the child whom she had to care after the most was Paisios, for he was the youngest of the seven.”
—“On this day, the l9th of June, we celebrate the memory of our our holy and Godbearing father, PAISIOS THE GREAT”
