Akathist to St. Luke, ‘The Blessed Surgeon,’ Archbishop of Simferopol, Compassionate Healer

Text for the Akathist has been taken from the book “The Blessed Surgeon,” published by Divine Ascent Press, and used here with their kind permission.

No. 15 of St. Paisius Orthodox Monastery Series

“We hear it said that the world has gone bad: evil dominates; our civilization has turned into a jungle. Moreover, we state that society is to blame. We forget, though, that it is we who make up society; and if society is bad, we are the ones most responsible, since through our deeds and words we set evil as a model for life. But there is another society—the Church of Christ—which sets forth something else: saints. It is not by chance that the Church celebrates and presents us with multiple saints every day, inviting us to approach them, to acquaint ourselves with them, and to imitate their holy life. Truly, our Church is a ‘saint factory’ and for centuries has never ceased to produce saints, even in today’s anti-spiritual age. One such example is the modern-day saint, Archbishop Luke the Physician.”
