They believed that Jesus was the Christ, the promised Messiah, but they did not yet grasp how He was to fulfill all the prophecies concerning Him and complete His Divine purpose. After the Resurrection and Ascension of our Lord, and the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, they were then illumined to understand and preach the Gospel.”
