A volume of The Great Synaxaristes of the Orthodox Church
“Naum (Nahum), the holy prophet, whose name means ‘comfort’ or “consolation,’ was from Elkesem, opposite Vattareim, on the farther side of the Jordan. Blessed Jerome (ca. 342-420) identifies the city as El Kauze in Galilee. Eusebius (ca. 260-ca. 340) and Saint Kyril of Alexandria (378-444) also agree that the prophet’s home was in Galilee. Naum hailed from the tribe of Symeon and flourished betwen 660-655 years before Christ.” —“On the 1st of December, the holy Church commemorates the holy PROPHET NAUM (NAHUM).”
