The Life of Saint Seraphim, Wonderworker of Sarov: For Young People

Compiled and illustrated by Maria Naumenko

“Not long ago, a great saint lived in Russia—Batiushka Seraphim of Sarov. Children, let me tell you about this saint. He was so meek, joyful, pure in heart—just like a child. St. Seraphim was born in 1759 in Kursk, in the family of a merchant. His parents were very pious. They spent their lives building churches. When little Prohor (that was the saint’s name before he became a monk) turned three, his father died. When he was seven, the Lord miraculously saved his life: he climbed to the top of a bell tower of a church which was being built, and fell from that height. No bones were broken, he was not hurt at all.”
