“On the occasion of the opening of the Holy Year at Rome in 1950, Pope Pius XII made an appeal to all non-Roman Christians ‘to return to the fold.’ An appropriate response to this appeal is the Encyclical of the Church of Constantinople, which was originally issued in reply to the Papal Encyclical of Pope Leo XIII in 1895 concerning reunion. This Encyclical[...]has as its purpose to re-assert and re-declare the fact that the Eastern Orthodox Church is the only real continuation of the Early Undivided Church. Moreover this Encyclical, which is again presented to the Orthodox Reader, serves to remind him of doctrinal differences that keep Rome separated from the original Church of Christ, and to prevent him from falling victim to Roman Catholic propaganda.”
